Bosnia has an estimated **65,000+ landmines and unexploded ordnance** remaining from the **1992-1995 Bosnian War**. Mined areas are concentrated in rural and mountainous terrain — precisely the kind of terrain that irregular migrants traverse when avoiding official border crossings. **Do not leave marked paths** in rural Bosnia.

ECONOMIC CONTEXT:

GDP per capita approximately **$9,359** (2024, World Bank nominal) — about **3.5 times Bangladesh's level**. The convertible mark (BAM) is the currency, pegged to the euro.
